Edinburgh / Edinburgh / London, Archibald & Co.; Manners & Miller; John Murray, . First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Size: 16mo 6" - 7" tall. A nice-looking exemplar of the 1796 true First Edition, this being an early reprint, printed by D. Ramsay & Son for two Edinburgh, Scotland-based and a London publisher. The short-lived Scottish poet of Lochleven, Michael Bruce (1746-1767), is valuable for reprinting from manuscripts, several recovered poems from his mother and his friend Logan but who turned out to be a lying cheat, having published some newly found poems of Bruce as his own, in 1781, most notably Ode to A Cuckoo. Leather over tips, nicely rebacked leather spine, four gilt fleurs-de-lis to spine, nicely gilt-tooled title to spine. Marbled page edges all around, moderately toned of interior, but clean, unmarked, tightly bound. xxiii [1], 2-176 pp, [ii], xi, [11], 18-127 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . .
